Technology
Despite adverse economic conditions, the ICT sector in Lebanon has been growing at the rate of 12% per annum. A subset of knowledge based industries, it has thrived on massive availability of qualified human resources and has become a breeding ground for entrepreneurs. ICT hinges on export-oriented businesses that evolve from local supply to export, the Gulf being its most prominent foreign market.
This sector is on the verge of experiencing further growth as new internet service technologies such as ADSL have been introduced at more competitive prices, while telecom cost is witnessing price slashing. The government which has yet to make a full transition into information technology is destined to become a major client for this sector.
Berytech has succeeded in harboring a vibrant ICT cluster, characterized by start-ups and growing companies in software as well as hardware development featuring high technological content, system integration and implementation, network and telecom engineering, etc.
Health
The health sector is vibrant in Lebanon thanks to the high ratio of qualified physicians coupled with a capacity to transfer and adopt new technologies and processes. The presence of state-of-the art medical hospital and platforms has anchored Lebanon's reputation in the field. The nation is becoming increasingly a destination for healthcare and wellness tourism.
The opportunity to use the medical background and experience of local physicians in business, technical, environmental and industrial applications will allow Lebanon to develop value-added niches outside curative platforms. Start-ups and growing enterprises in the fields of medical software development, clinical research as well as consulting have been increasingly clustering in Berytech. This cluster is a precursory complement to a state-of-the-art research facility, "La Technopole Santé", which USJ is building in proximity to Berytech on Damascus Road and which will feed the health cluster with commercial spin-offs ensuring synergy and long term sustainability.
