What is the activity of your company?
The Company provides actuarial services to the Insurance and Pensions sectors in the Middle East region.
In the Insurance world, we use our analytical skills to solve practical business problems, applying the latest techniques and software solutions to help insurers measure and manage risk and capital, grow revenue and create competitive advantage.
We help our Pension clients identify the right set of solutions from among the growing array of options, including the redesign of pension plans, the optimisation of the plan's value, the assessment and improvement of the plan's financial condition, and the improvement of the asset investment policies.
We’re specialized in building financial models for our clients to help them design investment strategies built on balanced Risk - Return objectives.
What are the biggest challenges you faced starting up and how did you overcome them?
The startup time for a consultant is typically a run after clients and resources. In the Middle East, getting the right resources is the toughest part of the exercise, especially that the actuarial field is quite new and not well understood among fresh graduates.
It is difficult to overcome this matter quickly unless you rely on foreign resources based mainly in the UK, North America, Australia and South Africa.
These resources are obviously expensive and very well paid where they are; besides they are quite demanded in the present context where everyone focuses on risk analysis and quantification, and area where the actuarial skills are key.
We are trying to contribute to the University Programs relating to the actuarial field in Lebanon. We also take on board interns and plan to sponsor PhD students to encourage young graduate consider the field seriously. Our team members who wish to qualify are given study time to do so, and the firm pays examination fees and books as needed.
What do you enjoy most from your stay in Berytech?
The facilities provided by Berytech help us focus on our development. The location is one of the nicest that you can get around Beirut.
Where do you see your company in the coming five years?
We plan to become the number 1 actuarial firm in the region, namely in the growing markets of Saudi Arabia and Syria. We hope to reach the critical size of 25 consultants, with 4 or 5 qualified actuaries on board.
We hope to have an active role in shaping the socio-economic strategy of Lebanon and the re-shaping of the Social Security and Public Pension programs. |
