On Wednesday November 11, 2009, Berytech’s President Mr. Maroun N. Chammas had a private meeting with the Chairman of Federal Communications Commission Mr. Julius Genachowski during his visit to Lebanon.
The encounter took place on the sideline of the International Telecommunication Union Global Symposium for Regulators which was hosted in Beirut, Lebanon from November 9 to 12.
The discussion centered on the broad subject of communication and enabling Lebanon’s economic development by upgrading telecommunications and Internet broadband infrastructures.
Mr. Genachowski stressed that FCC's broadband focus is on universal availability, seizing the opportunity of mobile, promoting competition, network openness, and regulatory transparency.

Chairman Genachowski commended Berytech for its efforts in supporting Lebanese entrepreneurs especially in the ICT sectors. The possibility of providing Lebanese entrepreneurs access to US markets as well as mentorship from renowned American technology entrepreneurs was explored.
Julius Genachowski was nominated by President Barack Obama to a seat on the Federal Communications Commission on March 23, 2009 and sworn in as FCC Commissioner on June 29, 2009.
Chairman Genachowski has two decades of experience in public service and the private sector. Prior to his appointment, he spent more than 10 years working in the technology industry as an executive and entrepreneur. He co-founded LaunchBox Digital and Rock Creek Ventures, where he served as Managing Director, and he was a Special Advisor at General Atlantic. In these capacities, he worked to start, accelerate, and invest in early- and mid-stage technology and other companies. From 1997-2005, he was a senior executive at IAC/InterActiveCorp, a Fortune 500 company, where his positions included Chief of Business Operations and General Counsel. |
