Lighting
As the world’s leader in Lighting, Philips is driving the switch to energy-efficient solutions, as well as shaping the future with exciting new lighting applications and technologies.
Philips shifted focus from products to Segments.
As people centric company Philips understands the different activities people want to do in any given environment on different moments of the day and different periods of their life.
Although on average people will be satisfied with the lighting conditions in general, they have many wishes when you become specific about an activity in a specific situation at a specific time. (e.g. shaving in a bathroom in the morning, working in an industry hall on a precision assembly working station, sitting in a waiting room of an hospital, walking in a shopping street when the shops are closed, etc.)
In stead of focus on the average, we start shifting focus to the specifics, creating new value)

Latest example November 2007: Living Colors is now used by neighbors in a street in the Netherlands to signal to everyone that they would like to invite others for a drink; by choosing the same color, you accept the invitation) Light as social dating instrument.

- In July 2007, Philips launched its global asimpleswitch.com consumer campaign showing that solutions for reducing energy consumption can be simple and actionable without compromising on quality of life. Part of the campaign is a consumer website www.asimpleswitch.com. Visitors are invited to record a personal ‘simple switch’ pledge either online or via SMS. Philips will track these collective pledges to change to energy efficient lighting and calculate the resulting energy and costs savings on the asimpleswitch.com website.
