In association with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, Berytech Technological Pole of Lebanon hosted a high level workshop in Beirut on leadership for business leaders, venture capital managers/bankers, and academia.

Titled ‘Business Leadership & Technology for Top Tier Executives’, the one-day workshop is the first on-ground collaboration between the Foundation and its partner Berytech, Lebanon’s first incubator and business development centre offering high added value services related to entrepreneurship development, information technology innovation, economic dynamism and business excellence.

Earlier this year, the two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly promote entrepreneurship in Lebanon and across the Arab world.

Led by Ray Milhem, Vice President and General Manager of Motorola, the workshop tackled several important topics on business planning for small and large companies, competition and market forces, as well as the Hi-Tech Eco System in the Middle East and its impact on facilitating the creation of small and medium businesses. The workshop also discussed the role of academia in promoting innovative thinking, a key prerequisite for entrepreneurship development.

Highlighting the influence of government support and incentives offered to smaller businesses in various parts of the world, Milhem spotlighted China and India as case studies in promoting entrepreneurial activities for sustainable economic development.
Sultan Lootah, Vice President for Entrepreneurship and Employment, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, said: “We are glad to witness the fruition of our cooperation with Berytech towards promoting entrepreneurship in Lebanon and across the region. We are confident our joint effort will enhance the Lebanese business community’s awareness on the importance of enabling small and medium enterprises to act as key drivers to both local and regional economic development.”

Maroun N. Chammas, President of Berytech said “This workshop demonstrates the commitment of the Foundation to follow through on our agreement. It also underlines the need for entrepreneurs to drive an adaptive enterprise, one that can quickly respond to and capitalize on change for business advantage.”

Inaugurated in 2002, Berytech has been significantly contributing to the economic growth in Lebanon, providing the opportunity to young professionals to start their own companies and preventing them from seeking careers abroad, thus increasing job creation potential. One of Lebanon's pioneering incubation and business development centres, Berytech has supported more than 70 start-ups and assisted in creating over 250 jobs.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation seeks to leverage knowledge as a vital platform for launching effective solutions to address key challenges facing the Arab World such as unemployment and brain drain. It also aims to develop the knowledge capabilities across the region through a series of strategic programmes in three main sectors of knowledge and education; culture; and entrepreneurship and employment
