This revolutionary communication system is the latest invention of Inmarsat, who was the world's first global mobile satellite communications operator and is still the only one to offer a mature range of modern communications services to maritime, land-mobile, aeronautical and other users.
Today's Inmarsat system is used by independent service providers to offer a range of voice and multimedia communications. The Inmarsat business strategy is to pursue a range of new opportunities at the convergence of information technology. For that it has launched from London in November 2002 a new mobile wireless service,
The Regional BGAN that offers businesses, small and large, high-speed data services via satellite at speeds of up to 144kbit/s virtually anywhere in up to 99 countries.
This service, is based on GPRS technology and extends the reach of the corporate office to allow business to operate where there is no reliable high-speed data network available. It enables remote access to corporate networks, to the Internet, to email, to set up a Virtual Private Networks and manage file transfers.
Inmarsat is continuing to invest and evolve its portfolio of services to meet the high-speed data needs of business today and tomorrow. Regional BGAN represents the first evolution with the 144kbit/s IP connection, and paves the way to Inmarsat's Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN).
Regional BGAN offers users high-speed Internet access with coverage in up to 99 countries within the satellite footprint. This cost-effective service is delivered through a portable satellite IP modem the size of a notebook PC, making it ideal for professionals on the move.
